Audio Recorder

Choose a microphone and record locally with pause, resume and stop controls. Review the waveform and active duration, play back your recording, and trim a copy before downloading a mono WAV. A full browser-native recording is also available where supported, with its actual format shown beside the export.

Microphone access starts only after you press Record. Pauses add no samples to the WAV duration. Recording pauses when this tab is hidden, and stops after 30 active minutes. Keep the tab open while recording.

Capture and privacy details

Audio stays in this browser’s memory; nothing is uploaded or transcribed. WAV captures a mono mix at the AudioContext sample rate, requested at 48 kHz. Browser and device processing can affect quality. The waveform shows peak amplitude over the recording, not a calibrated loudness reading. Long recordings can use several hundred megabytes of memory. Download your audio before leaving or reloading; it is not saved automatically.

Device/browser capture quality varies; stopping releases tracks. No transcription or hidden background recording.

Common questions

Does this upload or transcribe my recording?
No. Audio stays in browser memory and is not uploaded, transcribed or automatically saved. Download the recording before leaving or reloading. The microphone is requested only after you press Start recording.
Does paused time count toward the recording?
No samples are added to the WAV while paused. The active duration is calculated from captured samples and sample rate. Pause also disables the input track until you resume. Stopping releases all microphone tracks.
What happens if I switch tabs or unplug the microphone?
The recorder automatically pauses when the tab becomes hidden. A disconnected microphone stops the recording and keeps captured samples available. Leaving or closing the page releases the microphone, but can lose unsaved audio. Keep the tab open and download before leaving.
Which formats can I download?
WAV uses mono PCM 16-bit audio at the AudioContext sample rate, requested at 48 kHz. If MediaRecorder is supported, you can also download its full untrimmed recording; the actual MIME type is shown. Common native formats include WebM/Opus, Ogg/Opus or MP4, depending on the browser. Native timing and channel layout can differ from the WAV.
How does trimming work?
Enter start and end times in seconds, then create a preview or download the trimmed WAV. Boundaries round to the nearest sample. The original recording stays available. Trimming does not change the separate native export.
How long can I record?
The active recording limit is 30 minutes. Paused time is excluded. Long recordings can use several hundred megabytes of memory, and available device memory may limit practical duration. The recorder stops at the limit and prepares the captured audio.
Why is microphone access failing?
Allow microphone access in the browser’s site settings, confirm that the device is connected, and select an available input or the system default. Another app or operating-system privacy setting may prevent access. A secure page and a browser with AudioWorklet support are required.

Device/browser capture quality varies; stopping releases tracks. No transcription or hidden background recording.
