Experience coverage
Unique days count each date once. Gross role-days sum every period separately. Overlap days count dates with at least two active roles. Extra counted role-days = gross − unique, so three simultaneous roles add two extras per day. Gaps cover only uncovered dates between the first start and last effective end.

Common questions
- Does the work experience calculator include the end date?
- Yes. Both start and end dates count. A role that starts and ends on the same date lasts one day. January 1–31, 2024 is 31 days. All dates use civil calendar arithmetic, so daylight-saving changes do not alter the day count.
- How are overlapping roles counted?
- Gross role-days add each role separately. Unique covered days count each calendar date only once. January 1–31 and January 15–February 14, 2024 total 62 gross role-days, 45 unique days and 17 overlapping calendar days.
- Why can extra role-days exceed overlap days?
- Overlap days count dates covered by at least two roles. Extra counted role-days equal gross minus unique. Three roles covering the same ten days produce ten overlap days but twenty extra role-days. The ledger reports both measures separately.
- How do ongoing roles and gaps work?
- An ongoing role ends on the as-of date you supply and see on the page; the tool does not silently substitute today's date. Gaps are uncovered dates between the earliest start and latest effective end. Time outside that span is not labeled a gap.
- Can the result be expressed as years and months?
- Disjoint date ranges do not have one exact calendar-years/months decomposition. The optional average-year equivalent divides days by 365.2425 and rounds to six decimal places. It is explicitly an average-year conversion, not exact calendar tenure.
- Can I save a reusable project?
- Download project JSON preserves up to 100 labeled periods, their ordering, dates, ongoing flags and the as-of date. Restore previews the project before replacing the ledger, and replacement can be undone. Input stays in page memory until you export; there is no automatic device storage or account.
- What happens if a date is invalid?
- Totals are unavailable until every period is valid, including a supplied as-of date for ongoing roles. The tool flags impossible dates and reversed ranges. JSON preserves unfinished drafts, and CSV can export their raw entries and errors without showing misleading partial totals.
- Does this certify employment or benefit eligibility?
- No. It performs arithmetic on supplied date ranges and does not verify employment, certify tenure, or determine benefits or hiring eligibility.
