Point Buy Calculator

Allocate six fictional character attributes using your own point budget and score costs. Inspect each cost, retain over-budget choices, and export a reusable configuration or character summary.

Your point budget

Start from an illustrative example, then replace the labels, scores, costs and budget with your own rules. This is not an official rules implementation. No ancestry, class or other bonuses are inferred.

Undo and redo retain up to 50 changes on this page. Inputs are not saved automatically.

Blank labels use “Attribute 1” through “Attribute 6” in the summary. Scores are choices from your cost table. Editing or removing a table row never silently replaces an attribute’s selected score.

Editable score-to-cost table

Each score has one total cost, not an incremental cost from the previous score. Budget = total attribute costs + remaining points. Scores and costs accept whole numbers from -1,000,000 to 1,000,000; the budget accepts 0–1,000,000. Negative costs are credits. Costs need not increase with scores.

ScoreTotal costAction

8 of 100 rows. Duplicate scores, missing selections and invalid numbers block totals and export until corrected.

Reusable configuration and summary

Import replaces the allocation, labels, budget and table after validation. Undo restores the prior configuration. Editing while a file is loading cancels that pending import.

Arithmetic on the displayed user-editable cost table. The example is illustrative, not an official SRD or current game rule; every cost and the budget can be replaced. Inputs and files stay in your browser.

Common questions

How does this point-buy calculator work?
Choose one score for each of six attributes. Each score looks up its total cost in the visible table. Add the six costs and subtract the total from the budget. The illustrative table gives score 8 a cost of 0 and score 15 a cost of 9, so changing one attribute from 8 to 15 consumes 9 points.
Is the example an official game rule set?
No. The example is illustrative and is not presented as an official SRD or current game rule. Replace the budget, labels and score-to-cost rows with the rules you intend to use. The calculator does not infer bonuses, classes, ancestry rules or supplemental mechanics.
Can I change every cost and attribute label?
Yes. All six labels are editable, and you can edit, add or remove cost rows. Scores and costs support signed whole numbers from -1,000,000 to 1,000,000; the budget is nonnegative. Up to 100 rows are supported. Negative costs act as credits, and costs do not have to increase with scores.
What happens if I go over budget?
The remaining balance becomes negative and the tool shows the amount over budget. It retains all selected scores. You can change the allocation, costs or budget without the calculator enforcing an assumed rule set.
What happens if a selected score is removed from the table?
The attribute keeps its selected score and an error identifies the missing cost. Restore that score’s row or select another score. Duplicate table scores and invalid values also block totals and export until resolved.
Can I save and reuse custom rules?
Download the JSON configuration to save the labels, selected scores, budget and cost table. Import validates and replaces the whole configuration. Undo restores the previous allocation. Edits during a pending import cancel that import so a late file read cannot overwrite newer work.
Can I undo changes or copy the result?
Undo and redo retain the latest 50 changes on this page. Copy or download the text summary to include every attribute, total, remaining balance and the full cost table. Inputs and imported files stay in the browser and are not automatically saved.
