Hidden Word Challenge Maker

Type a word of 3 to 12 letters, choose the alphabet and how many attempts your friend gets, and the page writes a link that opens the same game in any browser. Each guess is marked tile by tile as right place, elsewhere or not in it, and a repeated letter is only credited as many times as the word holds it, so ALLEY against APPLE earns one L, not two. There is no daily puzzle and no word list behind it: every challenge is a word someone chose, every marked tile carries a symbol as well as a colour, and your recent games from links are kept in a results list in this browser.

What the link carries. The alphabet, the attempt limit, the word encoded as base64url and a four-character check code that catches a link cut short or mistyped. No name, no date and nothing about the person who made it. Once this page has read a challenge link it takes that part out of the address bar and keeps the game in this browser's storage, so where this browser keeps storage a reload picks up where you were.

Common questions

How do I make my own Wordle-style puzzle?
Type your word in the Word box, choose an alphabet and an attempt limit, then press Copy link and send it however you like. The link appears as soon as the word is valid: 3 to 12 letters, all from the chosen alphabet. Press Play it here to try the game yourself first; a preview of your own word is not added to your results. Whoever opens the link gets the same word, alphabet and attempt limit, with no account to make.
Can the person I send it to find the answer in the link?
Yes, if they go looking. The word travels in the part of the link after the # sign, encoded as base64url, which any decoder turns back into the word in seconds. That stops the answer being read at a glance, not someone determined to peek. Once the page has read a challenge link it removes that part from the address bar and keeps the game in this browser's storage, so the answer is not left sitting in the address and, where this browser keeps storage, a reload still resumes the game. With storage blocked the address is cleared all the same, so a reload loses the game and you need the link again.
How are repeated letters marked?
Letters in the right place are marked first. Then, reading left to right, a letter is marked elsewhere only while the word still has an unclaimed copy of it, and any extra copies are marked not in it. With APPLE as the answer, ALLEY is marked = + x + x: the first L is elsewhere and the second is not in it, because APPLE has one L. A letter already in its right place is never counted again as elsewhere, so EERIE against CRANE marks the last E in the right place and the other two not in it.
Does it check guesses against a dictionary?
No. A guess only has to be the right length and use letters from the challenge's alphabet, so names, slang and words from other languages all work, and so does a string of letters that is no word at all. The same goes for the word you hide. A guess that is too short or too long is not submitted, and the page says how many letters it needs.
Which languages, word lengths and attempt limits can I use?
Words of 3 to 12 letters, 1 to 12 attempts (6 unless you change it), and four alphabets: English A to Z (26 letters), Spanish with Ñ, where accented vowels count as plain ones (27), German with Ä, Ö and Ü (29), and Swedish with Å, Ä and Ö (29). The on-screen keys follow the alphabet you chose. German ß has no tile of its own, so write it as SS.
Is this the official Wordle?
No. It is an original guessing game made for this site and has no connection to Wordle or its publisher. There is no daily puzzle, no official answer list and no borrowed branding: every word comes from the person who made the link, and the tiles use this site's own colours, with a symbol on every marked tile.
What happens if the link gets cut off or changed?
Every link ends with a four-character check code worked out from the rest of it. If a chat app trims the end or a character is mistyped, the code stops matching, barring a fluke of about one in 1.7 million, and the page shows an error asking for the whole link again instead of opening a different word. A link from a different version of the page, or one naming an alphabet or attempt limit the page does not offer, is refused the same way.
Is anything about me or my game sent anywhere?
The link holds the alphabet, the attempt limit, the encoded word and the check code, and nothing else: no name, no date and nothing that identifies the person who made it, so the same word and settings always make the same link. The browser never sends the part after the # to the server, and this site's analytics strip it from the page address before sending anything. That keeps the answer out of server and analytics records, but anyone who has the link can still decode it. Your guesses and results stay in this browser, and the Start over button at the top of the page forgets them.

Feedback marks letters in the right place first, then marks a letter as elsewhere only as many times as the word still holds it, so ALLEY against APPLE marks one L, not two. Guesses are checked for length and alphabet, not against a dictionary. The link carries the word encoded, not encrypted, so anyone who decodes it can read the answer, and there is no official daily puzzle or word list here.
