Margins are the same on all four sides, up to 3 in (76.2 mm); the gap sits between cells, up to 2 in (50.8 mm). Columns and rows go from 1 to 12. Each photo is fitted whole, centred in the box above its caption.

Captions retain Unicode in the raster preview, PNG and PDF using device fonts. A caption too long for its lines has an explicit middle ellipsis; the full filename or custom caption remains in the photo list. Increase caption lines, reduce type size or use a shorter custom caption. Review glyphs before exporting. The PDF page uses exact physical dimensions; raster placement is rounded to the chosen DPI.

Photos stay in this tab. Still JPEG, PNG and WebP images are read with bounded header checks, then rendered one at a time in a cancellable worker. Sheets contain newly rasterized pixels and their DPI; the source files stay unchanged. Only validated layout settings are remembered, without photos, filenames, custom captions or the sheet title.
Common questions
- How do I make a contact sheet from a folder of photos?
- Choose local PNG, JPEG or WebP photos, or drop them onto the stage. Set the paper, grid, margins, labels and order, then press Build sheets. Check each completed preview before downloading one PDF or PNG pages. Multiple PNG pages are packaged in a ZIP. A set holds up to 500 images, and a failed image decode prevents a completed build rather than silently omitting that image.
- Why does IMG_2 sort before IMG_10?
- Natural order treats each run of digits as a number, so IMG_2 comes before IMG_10. The sort ignores letter case and groups accented letters with their plain forms, while ties remain stable. You can also sort in reverse, by EXIF date taken or as added, and move photos earlier, later or to a numbered position.
- Will landscape or portrait photos be stretched or cropped?
- Each image fits whole inside its photo box, preserving aspect ratio. Remaining space stays white. On the default US Letter 3 by 4 grid with 0.75 inch margins and 0.5 inch gaps, the photo box is 2 by 1.6 inches. A 6000 by 4000 landscape image fits at 2 by 1.33 inches. EXIF orientation is applied once so sideways stored images appear upright.
- Are the print dimensions exact?
- PDF page dimensions are exact: US Letter is 612 by 792 points and A4 is 210 by 297 millimetres. Each page contains the same raster image used by PNG and the completed preview. Photo and text positions are rounded to the selected DPI, so placement has pixel-level precision. PNG uses whole-pixel dimensions, such as 2550 by 3300 at 300 DPI for Letter, and includes a pHYs resolution chunk. Print PDF at actual size to retain its page dimensions.
- Can filenames and captions contain Japanese, Cyrillic or emoji?
- Yes. Unicode text is retained and rendered with the browser's available fonts, then included unchanged as raster pixels in PNG and PDF. Inspect the preview for any missing glyphs on your device. You can set a custom caption for each photo. Captions wrap to 1, 2 or 3 lines; an overlong caption has a visible middle ellipsis, and the photo list marks it as shortened while preserving the complete source text.
- How many pages will 13 photos produce?
- A 3 column by 4 row grid holds 12 photos per page, so 13 photos produce two pages: 12 on the first and one on the second. The same pagination is used in the preview, the multipage PDF and the PNG ZIP.
- What are the practical image and output limits?
- Headers are checked before decoding. Still JPEG, PNG and WebP images may have up to 16,384 pixels per side and 110 million pixels in total. The worker decodes and releases one image at a time. One output page may use up to 16,777,216 pixels, and the retained PNG set or PDF may use up to 256 MiB. Large A3 or Tabloid pages require a lower DPI. Cancel terminates the active worker; your sources and order remain available.
- Are my images uploaded or saved in the browser?
- Image files are kept in the current page and are processed locally. They are not uploaded or written to localStorage. Only validated layout settings are remembered, without photos, filenames, custom captions or the sheet title. Output sheets contain newly rendered page pixels and their resolution, without source camera metadata. Closing the page releases the in-memory image set.
Image proofs, not color-managed print guarantees. Sourcefiles remain unchanged.
