Which side of the court do you serve from in badminton?

From the right service court when the serving side's score is even, including 0, and from the left when it is odd. The receiver is the player in the service court diagonally opposite. The board works this out after every rally, names the server and receiver, and draws both on the court.

How does doubles service rotation work?

If the serving side wins the rally, it scores a point, the same player serves again and the two partners swap service courts. If the receiving side wins, it scores and becomes the serving side without anyone moving, and its player standing in the court its new score calls for serves. Partners only change courts after winning a rally their side served.

What happens at 20 all?

In 21-point games a side must lead by two, so 21-20 plays on and 22-20 wins. At 29 all the next rally decides it, so 30-29 is the highest possible score. In 15-point games the same rule starts at 14 all, and 20 all is settled by one rally at 21-20.

What is the 15-point (3x15) scoring format?

BWF members voted in April 2026 to play international events as best of three games to 15 from 4 January 2027: win by two from 14 all, capped at 21, with the deciding-game end change at 8. Rally scoring and the service rules stay the same. National federations and clubs choose when to adopt it. Pick 15 points in match setup; from 4 January 2027 the board opens in that format.

When do players change ends?

After each game, and in the deciding game when a side first reaches 11 in 21-point games or 8 in 15-point games. The board swaps the ends it shows and pauses scoring until you confirm the change. Nobody's right or left court changes, because each court is named from that player's own baseline looking at the net.

Who serves first in the next game?

The side that won the game. In doubles either of its players may serve first and either opponent may receive, so the board asks, then starts both from their right service courts at 0-0. In singles the winner serves. The ends change as the new game starts.

Can I fix a scoring or service mistake?

Undo and Redo step through the last 50 changes, including new games, end changes and a new match. If the wrong player served but the score is right, the corrections panel names the correct server and receiver and places them on the courts the score requires. Swap displayed ends fixes the picture when it disagrees with the hall.

Is the match saved, and can I print it?
