Both directions are the same two numbers. A percent applied to the pay you have, and a percent read back out of an offer, divide the same gap by the same starting figure. Common questions

How do I work out the percent increase between two pay figures?
Set Solve for to Raise percent, put the pay you have now in the current box and the offer in the new pay box. The page subtracts one from the other, divides by the pay you have now and multiplies by 100. Going from 48,000 to 52,000 a year is 4,000 divided by 48,000, which is 8.3333%, and the difference of 4,000 is shown beside it.
How do I turn an hourly raise into a yearly figure?
Set the period to Hour, enter your rate, and set hours a week to the hours you are paid for. The page multiplies by those hours and by 52 weeks, so 20 an hour at 40 hours is 800 a week and 41,600 a year. The hours are a box rather than an assumption: 22.50 an hour up 6% is 23.85 an hour, which is 2,808 more over a year at 40 hours and 2,106 more at 30.
Does this show my take-home pay after tax?
No, and that is deliberate. Every figure on the page is gross pay, before anything is held back. What comes out of a pay packet depends on where you work, what you have elected and what your payroll runs, and none of it can be worked out from a percentage, so the page has no field for it and never estimates one. What the tool is exact about is the raise itself: the new figure, the difference, and the percent between the two.
What is a cost of living raise?
A raise intended to keep pay level with prices rather than to reward performance. In arithmetic it is an ordinary percentage raise, so if your employer names a figure, enter it in the raise box like any other. This page carries no price index of its own and no published figure for any year, because a number like that goes out of date and would then be quietly wrong on a page nobody had touched.
How does a raise compound over several years?
Multiplicatively, which is why two years of 3% is not 6%. Run the first raise, put the new figure into the current box, then run the second: 1.03 times 1.03 is 1.0609, so 3% twice is a 6.09% rise across the two years. The tool applies one raise at a time on purpose, so every number on screen is one you can check against the two figures beside it.
How do I compare an hourly offer with a salary?
Enter either one, and read the other off the table. Put the hourly rate in with your hours a week and the yearly row is the comparison; put the salary in as a yearly figure and the hourly row divides it by the hours you entered. Every row of that table multiplies back to the same year, so the two offers are being compared on the same basis rather than on two different weeks.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. The arithmetic runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded, so a pay figure never leaves the device. The last set of numbers you typed is kept in this browser's own local storage so the page opens where you left it, and clearing your site data removes it.
