Random Job Generator
Press Draw again and this deals job titles out of a list of 268 written for this page, sorted into eight groups by the kind of work rather than by industry, and each one carrying a written line saying what the job actually involves: a farrier trims hooves and fits shoes, a sub-editor trims copy and writes the headline. That second line is the part the other generators on this search leave out, and it is the part that makes a drawn title usable in a game, a lesson or a story. You can leave titles out by name and the exclusion is matched on whole words, so nurse takes out Nurse and Veterinary nurse while Nursery practitioner stays in the pool. Ask for 1 to 50, keep the seed if you want the same batch tomorrow, and read the list knowing what it is: no pay, no demand, no entry requirements, because a shuffle is not a guide to choosing work.

Press Space or Draw again for a fresh seed. A draw takes without replacement, so no job comes up twice in one batch, and asking for more than a group holds gives you everything it has with both numbers stated. A term in Leave out is matched on whole words, so nurse takes out Nurse and Veterinary nurse and leaves Nursery practitioner in the pool, and a term that matches no title anywhere is named in the line above rather than dropped in silence. The group, the count and the exclusions are kept in this browser so the page opens where you left it, and the reset button at the top of the page forgets them. The seed is not kept, so every visit begins with different work.
Common questions
- Where do these job titles come from?
- All 268 were typed out for this tool from ordinary knowledge of what people do all day, and each one was given its own line of description at the same time. No other generator's list was copied, no occupation database was scraped, and once the page has loaded nothing else is fetched: the draw happens in your browser and what you type stays there. One test decided what went in. Would somebody reading the title picture a person at work? That rules out internal job codes, grades and titles that only mean something inside one company.
- Are these real jobs, and does the page show pay?
- They are real occupations, and no, there is not a single figure of pay anywhere on the page. The list carries a title and a written line about the work, nothing else: no pay, no demand, no entry requirements. That is deliberate. A number beside a title would read as a claim about what the work is worth or how easy it is to get into, and this is a shuffle for games, writing and warm-ups rather than a guide to choosing work. If you want that kind of information, the tool is the wrong place to look for it.
- Can I get the same batch of jobs again?
- Keep the seed. Every batch is made by a seeded shuffle, so the same seed with the same group, count and exclusions returns the same titles in the same order, on any machine and on any day. The seed is on screen and you can type one in: any whole number from 0 to 999999. Draw again rolls a fresh four-digit seed, and the seed is deliberately not remembered between visits, so coming back tomorrow gives you new jobs unless you type yesterday's seed back in. Asking for more jobs on the same seed keeps the ones already on screen and adds to them.
- How do I leave certain jobs out of the draw?
- Type them into the Leave out box, separated by commas or line breaks, up to 40 terms and 600 characters. A term is matched on whole words, so nurse takes out Nurse and Veterinary nurse but leaves Nursery practitioner in, and chef takes out all four chefs in Food and drink at once. A term that matches no title anywhere in the list is named under the tool rather than quietly ignored, which is how you catch a typo. Clear the box and every title is back in the pool.
- How many jobs can I draw at once?
- From 1 to 50. A draw takes without replacement, so no job comes up twice inside one batch, however many you ask for. If you ask for more than the group holds, you get all of it and the line under the tool says so: Food and drink holds 28 titles, so asking it for 50 hands back all 28 rather than repeating any to make up the number. Ask for more than 50 in total and the tool says so instead of quietly dealing a different number.
- What are the eight groups, and how big is each one?
- Hands-on (40), Outdoors (32), Caring (34), Creative (36), Technical (36), Food and drink (28), Commerce (32) and Service (30). The split is by what the work involves rather than by sector, so a bicycle mechanic and a glassblower sit together while an accountant and a recruiter sit together somewhere else. That is what makes a filtered draw useful: pick Hands-on for a making game, Creative for a writing prompt, Outdoors for a class about work outside. Leave the group on Every group and all 268 are in the pool.
- Can I use this for a lesson, a game or a writing prompt?
- That is what it is built for. Draw five jobs for a guessing game and read out the description instead of the title. Draw one for a character in a story and you already know what their day looks like. Write the seed on the worksheet and the same batch comes back next term. Copy puts the batch on the clipboard, one job a line, with the description beside each title, ready to paste into a document, and the space bar deals a fresh batch without reaching for the mouse.
A draw without replacement from a list of 268 job titles written for this page, so one batch never repeats itself and the same category, count and seed always give the same batch. The one-line descriptions are written here too. It carries no pay, demand, qualification or eligibility information of any kind.
