Syllable Counter
Paste English text to see syllables beside every word and totals for every line. A small pinned pronunciation lexicon handles common words and alternative pronunciations, while heuristic estimates and unknown words are labeled so poetry and writing drafts can be checked without pretending every name has one answer. Correct any unknown word, inspect the line pattern, then download CSV or TXT locally.
Lexicon matches are labeled exact for this built-in pronunciation set. Other words use a heuristic estimate; unknown words can be corrected below.

Common questions
- How accurate is the syllable counter?
- Common words in the bundled pronunciation set use its North American entries. Other words are labeled estimates or unknown, because names, acronyms and regional pronunciations do not have one guaranteed answer.
- Can I correct a word?
- Yes. An unknown word shows a small count field. Enter a whole number and the line total and pattern update immediately; the correction stays in the current page only.
- Can I use this for poetry?
- Yes. Each line prints its total and a hyphenated syllable pattern, which makes a draft's rhythm easier to compare. Estimates and unknowns remain visible so they are not mistaken for a scan of a full dictionary.
- Is my text uploaded?
- No. Counting, corrections and CSV or TXT generation happen in your browser. The tool does not send the text to a server.
Lexicon counts use the bundled North American pronunciation entries. Words outside that set use a labeled vowel-group estimate or remain unknown; manual corrections replace either result and are applied to the line total.
