Geography Quiz: Capitals and Flags
Capitals and flags for 82 countries, typed or multiple choice, with hints and your mistakes kept for review. Every answer shows its source from a dated snapshot, a hinted or revealed answer never counts as a point, and the same seed and settings always give the same quiz, which prints with its own answer key.

Seed and countries
These take effect when the next quiz starts. The same seed, countries, mode, format and length always give the same questions and options in the same order.
Countries: 82 of 82 selected
Continent groups follow the flag-icons metadata. They are a way to choose countries, not a statement about borders. Multiple-choice options come from the countries selected for the quiz, or from all 82 when a mistakes drill has fewer than four.

Your practice on this device
Each finished quiz is kept here as counts only, the newest 20. A wrong, skipped, timed-out, hinted or revealed answer adds that country to your saved mistakes for that mode; an unaided correct answer later removes it. None of it leaves this browser.

Common questions
- Which countries are in this geography quiz?
- 82 countries from a reviewed snapshot dated 2026-09-21, all listed under Sources on this page. Capitals and their Wikidata ids come from Wikidata (CC0) and the flags from flag-icons 7.5.0 (MIT). Countries with several, historical or transitional capital records, or a missing label, were left out, so it is not a quiz on every country in the world.
- How does scoring work with hints?
- Only an unaided correct answer scores a point. Each question offers one hint: in multiple choice it removes two wrong options, and with typed answers it shows the first letter of each word with blanks for the rest. A correct answer after a hint, or a revealed answer, counts as assisted. Wrong, skipped and timed-out answers count as wrong, and each question takes one answer only.
- Do I have to spell the capitals exactly?
- No. Typed answers ignore case, accents, spaces and punctuation, so Brasilia matches Brasília and Washington DC matches Washington, D.C. Kiev is accepted for Kyiv. For flags a leading "the" is ignored and a few short forms are accepted: USA, US and United States; UK; Turkey; Czechia; UAE; Republic of Korea. Anything else has to match the snapshot name.
- Can I print a geography quiz for a class?
- Yes. Print a quiz opens a sheet in a new tab with numbered questions, four lettered options in multiple choice or a line to write on, and a separate answer key page. The questions are written for this tool. The same seed, countries, mode, format and length always give the same questions in the same order, so a seed brings a sheet back.
- Is there a timer?
- It is optional. A stopwatch times the whole quiz and keeps the time with your result, or a limit of 30 or 15 seconds per question starts once the question, or its flag, is on screen. A question that runs out of time counts as wrong.
- Why is a flag question marked unavailable?
- A flag question needs that country's own flag file. If the flag file does not load, for example when the connection drops, the question is marked unavailable and not scored; you can try the flag again or skip it. The quiz never shows another country's flag in its place. A country whose bundled record fails its check is left out of the quiz before it starts and is marked unavailable in the country list.
- Are my answers or scores sent anywhere?
- No. The quiz runs in your browser and the flags are image files served from this site. Your settings, the last 20 finished quiz summaries and your saved mistakes stay in this browser, and the history holds counts, never what you typed. Clear history and Clear mistakes empty those two lists.
Questions come from exactly 82 country, capital and flag pairs in a dated 2026-09-21 snapshot: capitals from Wikidata (CC0) and flags from flag-icons 7.5.0 (MIT), with the source shown on every answer. It is not all of world geography and settles no sovereignty question; flags are drawn at a standard 4:3, Nepal keeping its own outline, not to official construction ratios. A country whose flag file or fact fails its check is shown as unavailable, never paired with another country's flag.
