Common questions
- When is Christmas?
- Christmas Day is 25 December every year. In 2026 it falls on a Friday, in 2027 on a Saturday and in 2028 on a Monday. The page shows the weekday for whichever year it is counting to.
- How is the countdown worked out?
- Christmas is a fixed date, so the tool takes 25 December of this year if it is still ahead or is today, and 25 December of next year otherwise, then counts the whole calendar days from today in your time zone. The clock under the number counts down the hours, minutes and seconds to midnight at the start of Christmas Day where you are.
- Does the count include Christmas Day itself?
- The count is the whole days from today to Christmas: on Christmas Eve it reads 1 day, and on Christmas Day it reads Today with the time left in the day. On 26 December the page counts to the following Christmas, 364 days away in most years and 365 when a 29 February lies between.
- How many working days are left until Christmas?
- The Working days row counts the Mondays to Fridays after today up to and including 25 December. Public holidays are not taken out, so if Christmas Day falls on a weekday it is counted as one. For a count with public holidays removed, use the business days calculator.
- What about Christmas Eve or Boxing Day?
- Type 24 December in the Date field for Christmas Eve. Boxing Day, 26 December, is in the table of holidays under the result, and picking it there counts to it.
- Can I choose a specific year or keep a typed date fixed?
- Use Holiday in a specific year and Count to this year to calculate the listed holiday in a four-digit year from 0001 to 9999. That result and any typed date stay fixed. Holiday buttons instead follow the next occurrence as your device’s local calendar advances. A past fixed target reads days ago. Rule dates are Gregorian/US calendar calculations, not an official historical holiday record.
- Why can the hours figure differ from the live clock?
- The hours figure is civil days multiplied by 24. The live clock measures elapsed time to device-local midnight and can differ across daylight-saving transitions; on the target day it counts down to the next midnight. There is no destination time-zone or custom event-time control.
Days are counted on the civil calendar from today in your time zone, and holidays are computed from their rules (Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Easter from the Gregorian formula), within years 0001–9999. Listed US rules and Western Easter are calendar calculations, not an official historical holiday record. Live hours and seconds use your device clock; civil days × 24 is a separate fixed-hour total.
