Dice Roller 1-6

This page opens on one six-sided die, the ordinary 1 to 6 die with dots. Press Roll, the space bar or R and the face that came up is drawn with its pips, with the number underneath. Tap d6 again to roll two or more six-sided dice together and see their total, or pick any other die on the tray. Each face comes from the browser's cryptographic generator with rejection sampling, so a 1 is exactly as likely as a 6.

Every die is shown, not just the total. Each face is drawn as it came up, a six-sided die with its dots, and the total sits underneath.

Common questions

Is each number from 1 to 6 equally likely?
Yes, exactly one in six. The value comes from crypto.getRandomValues rather than Math.random, and a byte that would favour the low faces is thrown away and drawn again: 256 is not a multiple of 6, so mapping every byte onto the die would make 1 to 4 slightly more common than 5 and 6. Past rolls never change the next one, so a run of sixes is luck, not a pattern.
Can I roll more than one six-sided die?
Yes. Each tap on d6 adds another, up to 100 dice in one roll, and the minus beside it takes one away. Every face is drawn with its dots and the total is shown under them. Two matching dice are called out as doubles, and Drop lowest leaves the smallest dice out of the total.
Does it work on a phone or a classroom screen?
Yes. It runs in any current browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or interactive whiteboard, with nothing to download or install and no account. The last 50 rolls stay in a log on the page, kept in that browser only.

Every face is equally likely: values come from the browser's cryptographic generator with rejection sampling, so a d6 is exactly one in six on each face. The log is kept in this browser only.
