Is this real cursive?

It is Unicode's Mathematical Script alphabet, designed for maths notation and drawn as a calligraphic style by most fonts. The letters do not join the way handwriting does, because each is a separate character, but the effect reads as cursive on every platform that has a font for the block, which is nearly all of them.

Why do some script letters look different from the rest?

Unicode encoded B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R, e, g and o as script letters years before the full alphabet arrived, so they live in a different block, Letterlike Symbols, and some fonts draw them with a slightly different weight. The tool maps to them anyway, because leaving those eleven letters plain would be worse. Bold script, 𝓵𝓲𝓴𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼, has no such gaps and is the row to use if the mix bothers you.

Can I get cursive numbers?

No. Unicode has no script digits, so 0 to 9 are left as typed in the script, bold script and italic rows. Bold, outline, sans bold and monospace on the main page do have digits if you need styled numbers.

Will cursive text work on Instagram, TikTok and Discord?

In bios, captions, comments and display names, yes, because those fields accept Unicode. Usernames and handles usually allow only plain letters and digits and will reject it.

Is cursive Unicode text readable by screen readers?

Not reliably. Readers either spell it out as mathematical script small a and so on, or skip it. Use it for a name or a flourish and keep the plain text where the meaning matters.

What each style is made of, and where it survives. These are characters, not a font, so the look travels with the text into any field that takes Unicode. Three kinds:

Real letters: real Unicode letters, safe everywhere. Bold, Italic, Bold italic, Script, Bold script, Gothic, Outline, Sans bold, Monospace, Bubble, Square, Wide.Lookalikes: lookalike characters, a few letters have no form.
