Grade Points GPA Calculator

Enter the grade points per credit already assigned to each course and its GPA credits. This page uses those supplied points directly, so a 3-credit course at 3.7 and a 1-credit course at 3.0 produce 14.1 quality points over 4 credits: a GPA of 3.525, displayed as 3.53. Honors or AP points already in your transcript are not increased again.

Enter each course's grade points per credit, not its total quality points or assignment score. Use the same grading convention throughout. Supplied honors/AP points are used as entered, with no extra bonus. P, NP, W and I are excluded under this tool's convention.

Cumulative

Add the record you already have and this combines the two by quality points, which is not the same as averaging the two GPAs. Combining the supplied grade point semester GPA 3.53 over 4 credits with the record below.

Cumulative after this semester
These are the points you supply. The calculator multiplies each course's points per credit by its GPA credits, then divides total quality points by total GPA credits. It does not infer a letter grade, normalize a grading ladder, or reverse weighting already included in your points. Results use finite browser arithmetic and are displayed to two decimal places; your registrar decides which courses and credits belong in the record.

Common questions

How do I calculate GPA from grade points and credits?
For each course, multiply its points per credit by its GPA credits. Add those quality points and divide by total GPA credits. For 3.7 over 3 credits and 3.0 over 1, the working is (3.7 × 3 + 3.0 × 1) / (3 + 1) = 3.525. The two-decimal display is 3.53; the cumulative calculation retains the computed semester value rather than using that rounded headline.
Should I enter grade points or total quality points?
Enter points per credit in Grade points. A 3-credit course assigned 3.7 points has 11.1 quality points, and the calculator performs that multiplication. Entering 11.1 as points per credit would count the credits twice. This page takes one row per course; it has no separate aggregate-quality-points input.
Can I use already weighted honors, AP or IB grade points?
Yes, if every entered value follows the same transcript convention. If a course is already assigned 5.0 points, enter 5.0; no extra bonus is added in Grade points mode. This does not recover an unweighted GPA from already weighted values or convert a 5-point scale to a 4-point scale.
Can I use assignment points, course percentages or letter grades here?
Those are different inputs. Grades Calculator handles earned and possible assignment points. The Percent input mode maps individual course percentages through its displayed bands; the 4.0 and 4.3 modes map letter grades. Supplied point values do not uniquely determine an original percentage, so switching from Grade points to Percent retains each numeric value with its points unit and asks you to enter the actual percentage.
Can I calculate GPA without course credits?
Choose Equal only when every included course should carry the same weight. Each then counts as one unit. With 3.7 and 3.0 points, the equal-weight mean is 3.35; it differs from the 3.525 credit-weighted example. A prior cumulative GPA still needs a denominator in the same units.
Can I combine these courses with my prior cumulative GPA?
Enter the prior GPA and its GPA credits in the Cumulative block, using the same point convention. A prior 3.2 over 16 credits plus this term’s 14.1 quality points over 4 credits gives (3.2 × 16 + 14.1) / 20 = 3.265, displayed as 3.27. No school repeat, transfer or rounding policy is inferred.
What happens to zero, missing or excluded grades?
Zero points is a counted failing result and still contributes its positive GPA credits. A blank grade row is not counted. P, NP, W and I are excluded from GPA credits and quality points under this tool’s convention; confirm whether your institution treats them the same way. Negative, nonnumeric, overflowing or unrepresentably small values show a message instead of a false result.

Finite browser arithmetic: quality points are grade points times credits, and GPA is their sum divided by GPA credits, displayed to two decimals. Supplied points receive no extra bonus; letter and percentage inputs use the displayed convention. Your registrar determines which courses count.
