Final Grade Calculator

Enter your current average for the work already graded, the course percentage you want, and the final’s weight. This example starts at 86%, targets 90%, and gives the final 25% of the course: it requires 102%, so the target is unreachable under a 100% final maximum. A perfect final would give 89.5%. Change the inputs to calculate your own requirement, rounded upward to the next 0.01% when it is attainable.

The target needs 102.00% on the final, above the assumed 100% maximum; a 100% final gives 89.50% overall.

Enter the average of the work already graded before the final. The final supplies the remaining weight; the model assumes its score is between 0% and 100%.

The scale in use

Every band includes its own floor and runs up to the next one. On this scale, 89.99% is B+ and 90% is A-. The displayed two-decimal percentage does not determine the letter.

How grades are calculated. Percentages use the scores and weights you enter and are displayed to two decimals. Letter grades use the computed percentage against the selected scale. Attainable final-score targets round upward to the next 0.01% and assume one remaining component scored from 0% to 100%. Curves, dropped scores and institutional rounding policies must come from your syllabus.

Common questions

What is the final grade calculator formula?
Required final score = (desired course percentage − current percentage × (1 − final weight/100)) ÷ (final weight/100). Your current percentage must describe the already graded work before the final, normalized over that work. The final supplies the remaining course weight. The calculation does not automatically apply a curve, dropped score, instructor rounding or extra-credit policy.
What score do I need to finish with 90%?
With 92% before a final worth 30%, the exact requirement is (90 − 92 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 85.333333…%. The tool rounds an attainable minimum upward to 85.34%, so the rounded requirement does not undershoot the target. Read your syllabus for how its grading system records exam percentages.
What if the required final score is above 100% or below zero?
Above 100% is labeled unreachable under the assumed exam range, and the tool shows the course result at a 100% final. A requirement of zero or less is shown as already met even with a 0% final. These statements describe the entered arithmetic, not a prediction of what an instructor will award.
Can I calculate quarter or semester grades?
Known quarter or semester percentages can be combined in Weighted mode using their actual shares of the course or year. For one remaining quarter or semester, enter the normalized average of the known components as Current grade and its remaining share as Final weight. For example, semester one at 80%, semester two worth 50%, and an annual target of 85% require 90% in semester two. For four equal quarters, average the known three and give the remaining quarter a weight of 25%.
Can I solve several remaining exams or a GPA target?
This solver has one remaining weighted component. Several unknown scores require more assumptions, and an aggregate GPA target is a different calculation involving course grades and credits. It does not fetch a Canvas or PowerSchool gradebook or convert GPA into a course percentage.
