The scale in use
Every band includes its own floor and runs up to the next one, so 89.99% is a B+ and 90% is an A-. Nothing is rounded on the way to a letter.

Common questions
- How do I grade a paper with 3 questions wrong out of 25?
- Enter 22 in Earned and 25 in Possible: what was right, out of the total. That is 88.00%, a B+ on the plus/minus scale and a B on the whole-letter scale. There is no separate box for the number wrong, because the same two fields have to serve a 40-point essay and a 25-question quiz, and points earned over points possible is the form that fits both.
- Can I use half marks?
- Yes. Both boxes take decimals, so 18.5 out of 20 is 92.50% and an A-. Nothing is rounded on the way to the letter, so a score that lands at 89.99% stays a B+ rather than being promoted to an A-.
- Can I change the letter scale for my course?
- The Scale control switches between the plus/minus scale, where an A starts at 93 and an A- at 90, and whole letters, where an A starts at 90 with no minus. Both are laid out in the band table under the calculator, and switching redraws the letter, the examples and the table together. If your department uses bands that match neither, mark from the percentage, which is the exact part of the output.
- Can I grade a whole gradebook here, not one paper?
- Switch the Mode control to Points and each assignment gets its own row, with points earned and points possible per row and a running percentage for the whole term. Weighted mode does the same job for a syllabus that grades by category weight instead.
- Is any student data uploaded?
- No. The page does the arithmetic in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. What you type is kept in this browser's own storage so a half-finished stack survives a closed tab, and clearing your browser data clears it. No account is needed to use any part of it.
Exact arithmetic on the points you enter, against the scale you choose. It cannot know your school's rounding rule, a dropped lowest score or extra credit, so set the scale and check the syllabus before you read the letter.
