Grade Percentage Calculator
When you already have the percentage and want the letter, this page takes the figure straight: type 89.5 and it is a B+ on the plus/minus scale, a B on whole letters. The bands it reads are printed underneath and switch with the scale, so the answer is always checkable against the numbers it came from. If you have points rather than a percentage, the Points and Quick modes work them out first.
89.50% is a B+ on the plus / minus scale.
Worked examples
Each one runs through the same code the page above does, on the plus / minus scale, so switching the scale moves them too.
The scale in use
Every band includes its own floor and runs up to the next one, so 89.99% is a B+ and 90% is an A-. Nothing is rounded on the way to a letter.

| A+ | 97% and above |
| A | 93% up to 97% |
| A- | 90% up to 93% |
| B+ | 87% up to 90% |
| B | 83% up to 87% |

| C | 73% up to 77% |

Common questions
- What letter grade is my percentage?
- On the plus/minus scale used here, 97 and above is an A+, 93 an A, 90 an A-, 87 a B+, 83 a B, 80 a B-, 77 a C+, 73 a C, 70 a C-, 67 a D+, 63 a D, 60 a D- and anything below 60 an F. Each band includes its own number and runs up to the next one. The table under the calculator lists them, and it redraws if you switch to whole letters.
- Is 89.5% an A minus?
- Not on this page. 89.5% is a B+, because the A- band starts at 90 and nothing is rounded on the way to the letter. Plenty of courses do round, and plenty of instructors round at their own discretion. That is a syllabus rule, so the honest thing for a calculator that has not read it is to show the band the number actually falls in and let you apply your course's rule yourself.
- How do I turn points into a percentage first?
- Use Quick mode for one score, or Points mode for a whole term. Twenty-two of 25 is 88.00%, and 493 of 550 is 89.64%. Both then read against the same scale as this page, so the letter matches whichever route you took.
- What if my school's cut-offs are different?
- Switch the Scale control to Whole letter if there are no pluses or minuses, which puts an A at 90, a B at 80, a C at 70 and a D at 60. If your bands match neither scale, compare your percentage against your own table: the percentage this page reports is exact arithmetic and stands on its own, while the letter is only as right as the scale it was read against.
- Does it accept a percentage sign or a decimal?
- Both. 83, 83% and 83.4 are all read the same way, and spaces around the figure are ignored. A negative percentage is refused with a message saying why, and so is anything that is not a number, such as a letter grade typed into the box.
Exact arithmetic on the points you enter, against the scale you choose. It cannot know your school's rounding rule, a dropped lowest score or extra credit, so set the scale and check the syllabus before you read the letter.
