Minutes to Hours Calculator
How many hours is 120 minutes? Two hours, and this page opens with 120m already entered and 2:00 on screen. Type any number of minutes over it and the answer comes back as hours and minutes and as a decimal at the same time, with the arithmetic printed underneath. The table below runs from 30 minutes to 600 in half hour steps, plus 1000 minutes, every row computed by the tool itself.
One duration per line, or separated by commas or a plus. A plain number is hours, so 1.5 is an hour and a half; write 90m for ninety minutes. A minus takes one back off the total, which is how an unpaid break comes out.
Minutes to hours, in half hour steps
Computed by the tool: minutes divided by 60 for the hours, the remainder kept as minutes, and the decimal rounded to two places. 1000 minutes is on the end because it is the one people ask for that the half hour ladder misses.

Common questions
- How many hours is 120 minutes?
- Exactly 2 hours, which is 2.00 in decimal hours. Divide the minutes by 60: 120 divided by 60 is 2 with nothing left over. The box above starts on 120m so the answer is already there, and replacing the number answers the next one.
- Why do I have to write 120m rather than 120?
- Because in this box a plain number means hours: 1.5 is an hour and a half, which is what people mean when they paste a column of decimal hours in. Adding an m makes it minutes, so 120m is two hours while 120 on its own would be a hundred and twenty of them. Writing 2:00 works too, and so does 2h.
- How do I convert minutes to hours and minutes?
- Divide by 60 for the hours and keep the remainder as the minutes. 100 minutes is 1 remainder 40, so 1:40. 1000 minutes is 16 remainder 40, so 16:40, which is 16.67 decimal hours. The tool shows both forms for whatever you type, and the table on this page has the common ones worked out.
- What about 80, 90, 150 or 240 minutes?
- 80 minutes is 1:20, or 1.33 hours. 90 is 1:30, or 1.50. 150 is 2:30, or 2.50. 240 is 4:00, or 4.00. The half hour steps from 30 to 600 are all in the table on this page; for anything in between, type the minutes with an m after them and read the answer off the top of the page.
- Can I add several lots of minutes together?
- Yes. Put one on each line, or separate them with commas or a plus sign: 120m + 45m comes to 2:45. Mixed forms add up fine, so 1:30 + 45m + 0.25 is an hour and a half, three quarters of an hour and a quarter of an hour, which comes to 2:30. A minus in front of an entry subtracts it instead.
Exact time arithmetic: minutes are counted, then shown as hours and minutes and as decimal hours. Overtime here is a count of hours over a threshold you set; what any hour is paid is not part of this tool.
