Blur Text in an Image
This page opens in Selection mode at radius 12 with PNG output. Choose or paste a screenshot, then place the box over a line of text. Keep a box to include it while you move or draw the next one. Adjust the radius until the preview has the softness you want. Blurring is a visual effect and cannot guarantee that text becomes unreadable.

Radius is the standard deviation of the Gaussian, in pixels, from 0 to 100, over pictures up to 30 megapixels. Drag a box on the original to blur one part, or switch Mode to Whole.
Use blur on a webpage
Generate CSS, canvas or a loading placeholder for image paths you host yourself. These recipes use the radius above and blur a whole image. Browser CSS filters can differ from this tool's exported Gaussian.
Those three lines are printed by running the same code your picture goes through, not typed in by hand.
Common questions
- How do I place the box over text?
- Drag a rectangle on the original preview or enter Left, Top, Width and Height below the controls. These coordinates use the screenshot’s full-size pixels. The selected text is blurred; the output keeps the screenshot’s width and height.
- Can I blur several separate lines at once?
- Yes. Draw one rectangle at a time. Press Keep this box for the first line, then move or redraw the active box for another line. The output includes the active rectangle and every kept box, while pixels outside them stay unchanged in the blur buffer. Overlaps sample the original and are not blurred twice. Remove a kept box to exclude it. A freehand brush is not available.
- Does this remove sensitive text securely?
- No. A small blur can leave letters readable, and blurred patterns may be recoverable. Replace private text with an opaque solid shape in an image editor when it must stay secret.
- Why use PNG for a screenshot?
- PNG avoids JPEG compression around sharp text and keeps transparency. You can switch to JPEG if you prefer; transparent areas are filled with white.
- Can I do this on a phone?
- Yes, in a current browser on iPhone or Android. Choose a screenshot, drag the box using touch or enter the four selection numbers, then press Download. The image stays on your device.
A separable Gaussian blur with weights that sum to one, computed on decoded pixels on this device. Radius 0 leaves the blur buffer unchanged; Selection mode writes only inside its rectangles. Canvas encoding can round transparent colours and JPEG adds compression. Output has no hidden original layer. Blurring is a visual effect, not a security control: text may remain readable or recoverable. Nothing is uploaded.
