Markdown Table to CSV Converter
Paste a Markdown pipe table with its header and dash separator row. Markdown input and CSV output are selected. The header becomes the first CSV record; the alignment row is omitted. Inspect the converted cells, then copy the CSV or download table.csv. This page converts one table at a time.

Paste rows from a spreadsheet, a CSV, or a Markdown table with its dash row: the grid follows as you type. Auto picks the format by what it finds. Past 1,000 cells this is the only editor, because a page of that many text boxes is not one.
Preview
The same grid, drawn as a table. Cell text is drawn as text, so anything pasted in shows here as the characters it is made of and nothing in it can run.

- written as a \| b, table intact
- 3 columns kept, the cell is empty
- every value moves with the row: Resin, B
Common questions
- Which parts of a Markdown table are required?
- Include a header row and a separator row such as | --- | ---: |, followed by any data rows. The separator describes column alignment and is not exported as data. Leading and trailing pipes are optional. Extra cells widen the grid and shorter rows receive empty cells, so inspect the preview if the source was uneven. Paste only the table, without surrounding prose or a fenced code block.
- What happens to escaped pipes, links, bold text and br tags?
- An escaped pipe such as a \| b becomes the value a | b. Links, emphasis markers, code spans and HTML tags remain source text in the cell; this is a pipe-table parser, not a full Markdown renderer. A literal <br> remains <br> in the CSV and is not turned into a newline. Cells are trimmed at their outer edges during Markdown import, so this is not a byte-for-byte source round trip.
- How are empty cells, commas and quotes written?
- Every accepted row has the grid’s column count, including an empty last cell. CSV values containing commas, double quotes or real line breaks are wrapped in double quotes, with internal quotes doubled. Records use CRLF line endings. The first CSV record is the Markdown header; its alignment separator is omitted.
- How do I keep leading zeros or formula-like text when opening the CSV?
- The CSV keeps the cell text you imported, including 0012 and =SUM(A1). A spreadsheet may still infer numbers, dates or formulas when opening CSV. Use its import dialog and choose Text for those columns, or open the result in <a href="/spreadsheet-converter/csv-to-xlsx">CSV to XLSX</a> and set them to Text. CSV quoting does not itself force spreadsheet cell types.
- Can I convert several Markdown tables or a whole document?
- Paste one table per conversion, up to 500 rows including the header and 50 columns. This page does not scan a document for tables or merge several tables. Beyond 1,000 cells, editing stays in Text view. Invalid input blocks export while retaining the last valid grid for recovery. A draft is saved in this browser, and the page’s input/output preset takes precedence when it opens.
- Can I go from CSV to Markdown or paste into a spreadsheet?
- Yes. Switch the output to Markdown and choose Comma input for pasted CSV, or use the <a href="/markdown-table-generator">Markdown Table Generator</a>. Copy TSV supplies tab-separated cell values for pasting into a spreadsheet. No Excel installation or account is needed.
Markdown output uses GitHub-flavoured pipe-table syntax and CSV output quotes cell text with CRLF record endings. Escaped pipes are decoded on Markdown import; literal HTML remains text. The preview and exports use the same grid, up to 500 by 50.
