Concept Chart Maker

Start with a music concept chart, then rename concepts and describe each relationship from parent to child. Select a branch in Outline to edit its relationship. Switch to Map to see the labelled arrows, then download SVG for the drawing or JSON to keep editing. This page remembers its own chart separately from the main mind map.

Open the downloaded HTML file and press Print / Save PDF. Choose the document's paper size and orientation, 100% scale and no browser headers or footers. Save as PDF is available when your browser's print dialog offers it. Large maps use overlapping pages; unfold branches first to include them.

The centre of the map is the top level, so there is nowhere further out for it to go.

refused: The centre of the map cannot sit under another node. Drag a branch onto the centre instead, or rename the centre.

Type the outline, or open one

One idea on each line, indented for every level inside. Tabs, two spaces and four spaces all nest the way they look. Generated text quotes literal bullets and fold suffixes; keep the quotes when editing them. Building from the box replaces the labels and hierarchy on the stage, resets folds and assigns new IDs. In a concept chart, new relationships start as "relates to". Open JSON to retain relationships and folds.

Up to 500 nodes, 120 characters a label.

Every edit happens in this tab. Download writes the SVG, the JSON or the plain text tree onto your own device, Copy puts the same text on the clipboard, and a JSON file opens back here with every label, every fold and the order of every branch as it was. A node you drag onto something inside its own branch is refused and the map is left alone, because a mind map that contains itself has no depth to draw. The map is kept in this browser, so the next visit opens where you left off.

Common questions

Are relationship labels checked facts?
Each concept has one parent. Relationships are text you provide, not checked facts. This hierarchical chart has no cross-links, cycles or flowchart shapes.
How do I edit a relationship?
Select a branch in Outline. Below the stage, edit the field labelled with its parent and child names. The relationship needs 1 to 40 characters. An arrow points from parent to child, so Music uses Rhythm is read in that direction. When moving a branch, check that its relationship still describes the new parent.
Can I add more concepts?
Use + in or Tab for a child and + beside or Enter for a sibling. New relationships start as relates to; edit them to describe your concepts. Each chart holds up to 500 nodes and 12 levels below the centre, with 120 characters per concept label.
Which download keeps the relationships?
SVG includes visible arrows and relationship labels. JSON includes all concepts, relationships, branch order and folds, and opens here again. Text contains the visible concept labels and hierarchy only. Building from an outline assigns new IDs, opens branches and sets each relationship to relates to. SVG replaces characters XML cannot represent with the replacement character (); JSON retains the stored text.
Does this overwrite my main mind map?
This preset uses separate browser storage for its chart, view and export choice. Returning here restores your chart. Browser storage can be blocked or cleared, so download JSON for a separate copy.
Can I connect a concept to several parents?
No. This chart is a hierarchy: each concept has one parent and you edit that parent relationship. It does not provide arbitrary cross-links, loops or flowchart decision shapes.
Can I print the concept map or use bubbles?
Choose Bubbles to draw oval concepts; JSON and this page's separate browser storage keep the shape. Choose A4 or Letter and Download print document for the visible arrows and relationship labels on white paper. Open the HTML file, press Print / Save PDF, and match its paper size and orientation at 100% scale without browser headers or footers. Save as PDF depends on your browser's print dialog. Unfold branches first to include them.

The map is a tree, so a node can never become its own ancestor and a move that would make a loop is refused rather than drawn. Everything is kept in this browser, and the JSON it saves is the file it reads back.
