4 Times Table

The trick for the 4 times table is to double twice: 4 × 7 is 7 doubled to 14, doubled again to 28, so it is the 2 times table doubled. This page opens the multiplication table with the 4 row lit, writes out 4 × 1 to 4 × 12 = 48 with the working for each fact, and prints as a clean sheet.

Any whole number from 1 to 30 in the size box redraws the grid. Print gives the grid alone, and Copy as text puts it on the clipboard with tabs between the cells, so it pastes into a spreadsheet as cells.

The 4 times table

To multiply by 4, double the number twice: 7 doubled is 14, doubled again is 28.

Common questions

What is the trick for the 4 times table?
To multiply by 4, double the number twice: 7 doubled is 14, doubled again is 28. Take 4 × 9: 9 doubled is 18, doubled again is 36.
What is 4 × 7?
4 × 7 = 28. Double 7 to get 14, then double 14 to get 28. Or take 4 × 5 = 20 and add two more 4s: 20 + 8 = 28.
What pattern do the answers in the 4 times table follow?
Every answer is even and the last digits cycle 4, 8, 2, 6, 0: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, then 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, then 44, 48. Every answer in the 4 times table is also in the 2 times table, exactly twice as far along: 4 × 7 = 28 is 2 × 14. Double once more and you have the 8 times table.
Can I print the 4 times table?
Yes. Press Print, or use your browser's own print command, and only the table prints: the full grid with the 4 row shaded, then the 4 times table written out as 12 facts with the working beside each one. The headings, buttons and this text are left off. Choose PDF as the printer to save it as a file instead.
How is this page different from the full multiplication table?
It is the same grid with the 4 row lit from the start, and the 4 times table written out underneath with the trick applied to each fact, so 4 × 1 to 4 × 12 can be read down one column. Move over any other cell and its row and column light up as well, with the fact in the Highlight readout, but the 4 row stays lit and the facts below stay the 4 times table. The full table, with any size from 1 to 30, is on the multiplication table page.

Exact. Every cell is the product of its row and column.
