9 Times Table
The trick for the 9 times table is ten times the number minus the number: 9 × 7 is 70 minus 7 = 63, and up to 9 × 10 the digits of each answer add to nine. - 9 × 7 = 63. Ten sevens are 70, take away one 7, and you have 63. Check it: 6 + 3 = 9. There is a finger trick too: hold up ten fingers and fold the seventh down, and the fingers left standing read 6 on one side and 3 on the other.
- What pattern do the answers in the 9 times table follow?
- From 9 × 1 to 9 × 10 the tens digit goes up by one and the units digit goes down by one: 09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90, and the two digits always add up to 9. The tens digit is one less than the number you multiplied by, so 9 × 7 starts with a 6 and the 3 is whatever makes nine. Past 9 × 10 the digit sum needs a second step: 9 × 11 = 99 gives 18, and 1 + 8 = 9.
