Camping Packing Checklist

This page opens on the Camping trip set: shared gear such as the tent, camp stove and fuel, cookware, a lighter, spare batteries, insect repellent, a first aid kit and trash bags, plus each camper's own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, headlamp, camp chair, water bottle and rain jacket. Type a weight for each item and its bag's total adds them up, which matters most when you carry everything yourself.

Add an item

Quantity is how many to take; the packed count can never go above it. Leave the weight blank if you do not know it: the bag total then says partial instead of counting it as 0. Up to 1,000 items per list.

Travelers and bags

An item belongs to one traveler or is shared, and sits in one bag. A bag's own weight is the empty bag; its total adds each item's quantity times its weight.

Starter items

A starting point, not a recommendation: everyday clothes and accessories only, one set per traveler (or one shared set when the list has no travelers), all with unknown weights. The rule for the quantities: a per-day item starts at one for each day of the trip, which is nights plus one, and stops at 7; every other item starts at the count shown. Change any number afterwards.

Trip sets

Short lists of common items for one kind of trip, to add on top of the clothes starter or on their own. Items marked each traveler are added once per traveler; shared items once for the whole list. Weights start unknown, and nothing in a set depends on where you are going, so add or remove anything to suit your trip.

This list and your saved lists

Up to 30 lists are kept in this browser while it has room for them. Copy for a new trip keeps every traveler, bag, item and quantity and sets the packed counts back to 0; the original keeps its ticks.

Weights in
Accuracy. It organizes the plan you type in: what is left to pack and each bag's weight are plain arithmetic on your own quantities and weights, and an item or bag with no weight stays unknown, so that bag's total is marked partial instead of counting it as zero. The starter is everyday clothes and accessories only, and each trip set is a short list of common items for that kind of trip; it knows nothing about entry rules, airline baggage allowances or the weather, and it cannot tell you a list is complete.

Tick the box to mark an item fully packed, or use the minus and plus buttons to count one at a time. Drag a row onto another bag to move it, or onto a row of the same category to put it before that row; from the keyboard, Alt with the up or down arrow moves a row within its category, and Edit opens the form where the bag, traveler, quantity and weight change. Lists are kept in this browser; nothing is uploaded and no account is asked for. The PDF uses a built-in font that covers Western European letters; for any other script, Print and choose Save as PDF.

Common questions

Does it work for backpacking?
Yes, as a list you trim. Enter each item's weight and the pack's own weight, and the bag total shows what you will carry, marked partial until every item has a weight. Move shared gear between packs to even the load. It adds the weights you type; it knows nothing about the route or the weather.
Can each child have their own list for summer camp?
Add each camper as a traveler: personal rows from the set go in once for each of them, and under the board every camper's items still to pack are listed with their own Copy button. A camp's own required list comes first, so add anything on it that the set does not have.
Is the set for tent camping or an RV?
It is written for tent camping. For an RV or a cabin, remove the tent and sleeping pads and keep the rest.
