International Travel Packing Checklist

This page opens on the International travel set, in a carry-on: a passport, visa or entry papers if your trip needs them, copies of key documents, payment cards, some local currency, a plug adapter, a phone charger, headphones, a travel pillow, medicines you take and a water bottle for each traveler, plus shared travel insurance details. Add the clothes starter for the rest, and print a checklist for each bag.

Example: International tripMaya and Sam, 1 bag
Example list: Maya and Sam are made up, and the items are the International travel set under Trip sets.

Add an item

Quantity is how many to take; the packed count can never go above it. Leave the weight blank if you do not know it: the bag total then says partial instead of counting it as 0. Up to 1,000 items per list.

Travelers and bags

An item belongs to one traveler or is shared, and sits in one bag. A bag's own weight is the empty bag; its total adds each item's quantity times its weight.

Starter items

A starting point, not a recommendation: everyday clothes and accessories only, one set per traveler (or one shared set when the list has no travelers), all with unknown weights. The rule for the quantities: a per-day item starts at one for each day of the trip, which is nights plus one, and stops at 7; every other item starts at the count shown. Change any number afterwards.

Trip sets

Short lists of common items for one kind of trip, to add on top of the clothes starter or on their own. Items marked each traveler are added once per traveler; shared items once for the whole list. Weights start unknown, and nothing in a set depends on where you are going, so add or remove anything to suit your trip.

This list and your saved lists

Up to 30 lists are kept in this browser while it has room for them. Copy for a new trip keeps every traveler, bag, item and quantity and sets the packed counts back to 0; the original keeps its ticks.

Weights in
Accuracy. It organizes the plan you type in: what is left to pack and each bag's weight are plain arithmetic on your own quantities and weights, and an item or bag with no weight stays unknown, so that bag's total is marked partial instead of counting it as zero. The starter is everyday clothes and accessories only, and each trip set is a short list of common items for that kind of trip; it knows nothing about entry rules, airline baggage allowances or the weather, and it cannot tell you a list is complete.

Tick the box to mark an item fully packed, or use the minus and plus buttons to count one at a time. Drag a row onto another bag to move it, or onto a row of the same category to put it before that row; from the keyboard, Alt with the up or down arrow moves a row within its category, and Edit opens the form where the bag, traveler, quantity and weight change. Lists are kept in this browser; nothing is uploaded and no account is asked for. The PDF uses a built-in font that covers Western European letters; for any other script, Print and choose Save as PDF.

Common questions

Does it know the entry rules for my destination?
No. Passport validity, visas and what you may carry across a border vary by country and change, and this page knows none of them, so check them with an official source for your destination. The entry papers row is there as a reminder to do that.
Will my carry-on fit the airline's allowance?
It adds the weights you type for each bag, so you can compare the total with the number your airline gives you. It does not know any airline's weight or size limit, and a total stays partial until every item in the bag has a weight.
Does it work for a trip to Europe or Japan?
Yes: nothing in the set depends on the country. Add a bag for each piece of luggage and move items between them, and use Copy for a new trip to reuse the list next time.
