PDF Booklet Maker
Arrange an existing PDF for a booklet you can fold in half and staple. This page opens Booklet mode. Choose your paper and binding, review the numbered front and back of every sheet, then download the imposed PDF. Print one output page on each side at actual size with the flip edge shown in the plan.
Each printed side appears here, drawn from the imposed PDF itself.

Common questions
- How do I convert a PDF into a printable booklet?
- Choose a PDF whose pages are already in reading order. Pick the paper size, left, right or top binding, blank-page placement and the edge your printer flips on. The tool arranges the source pages automatically. Review each side, download the PDF, print it double-sided at actual size and nest the folded sheets in the order shown. Use one output page per printed side; do not apply your viewer’s Booklet or N-up setting again.
- Why does a booklet have four pages per sheet but two per side?
- A physical sheet has a front and a back. This booklet mode places two source pages on each side, giving four pages per sheet before folding. For an eight-page booklet, the outer front is 8 and 1 and its back is 2 and 7; the inner front is 6 and 3 and its back is 4 and 5. A grid of four pages on each side is a different <a href="/pdf-imposition">N-up layout</a>.
- Can I print an A5 booklet on A4, or A4 on A3?
- Yes. Choose A4 paper for an A5-sized folded sheet, or A3 for an A4-sized folded sheet, and use left or right binding. Fit scales each page into its half-sheet after margins and gutter. For existing A5 pages on A4 with no added spacing, set Margin and Gutter to 0; the plan shows the exact scale. Letter folds to 5.5 × 8.5 inches, and Tabloid (11 × 17) folds to Letter. For wide source pages, Top binding folds a portrait sheet into landscape pages; review the fit in the preview. This mode does not create an A6 booklet by folding an A4 sheet twice.
- What if my PDF page count is not a multiple of four?
- The tool pads the booklet with blank positions until its page count is a multiple of four. Choose At the end for trailing blanks, or Before the last page to keep your final source page as the back cover. For five source pages, the booklet has eight positions. Every added blank is labelled in the sheet list and preview.
- Why are the booklet backs upside down or in the wrong order?
- Match your print dialog’s duplex flip edge to the plan. A left- or right-bound booklet normally uses the short edge; if your printer must use the long edge, select that in Printer flips on and the tool rotates the backs to compensate. Print one test sheet before the full booklet. Feed the source in ordinary reading order: a PDF already imposed into spreads needs to be separated first, which this tool does not do.
- Can I make the booklet larger or remove its margins?
- Fit uses the space left after Margin and Gutter; set both to 0 to remove spacing added here. Shape differences can still leave space. Actual size uses 100% and clips anything outside its cell, so check the preview carefully. Larger paper gives larger cells. The tool does not control printer margins or add print-shop features such as creep compensation, trim marks or multiple signatures.
- Can I use a Mac, Windows computer or a PDF exported from Canva?
- Open the saved PDF in a current browser and download the imposed copy. This requires no Adobe application or account. Export designs to a normal reading-order PDF before opening them here; the tool does not integrate with Canva, Preview or InDesign. It arranges pages you supply and does not write, design or host an interactive flipbook.
- Can I make one booklet from several PDFs, photos or Word files?
- Combine separate PDFs with <a href="/pdf-merger">PDF Merger</a> first. Turn supported photos into a reading-order PDF with <a href="/image-to-pdf">Image to PDF</a>. For Word input, export to PDF in your word processor. Then open that PDF here. This tool accepts one unencrypted PDF up to 100 MB (100,000,000 bytes) and 500 pages.
- Does booklet conversion preserve text and interactive features?
- Page content is placed as vectors, so searchable text stays selectable. Printable form and comment appearances are drawn into the pages. Links stop being clickable, and hidden or nonprinting annotations are omitted. The result is meant for print layout, not to preserve document-level forms or digital signatures.
Page order is exact: n-up fills each side in the reading order you pick, and a booklet is padded with blank pages to a multiple of four and ordered so the folded sheets read from the first page to the last. Pages are placed as vector content, so text stays sharp and selectable, and form fields and comments marked for printing are drawn from their stored appearance. What prints depends on your printer, which this page cannot control: the paper matches the preview only at actual size (100%) and, for two-sided sheets, with the flip edge the plan names.
