50/10 Pomodoro Timer

This page opens on the deep work scheme: 50 minutes of focus, a 10 minute break, and a 20 minute long break after two rounds. That reaches the long break two hours in, the same as the classic 25 and 5, with two breaks on the way instead of four. Press Start on the timer below to begin the first 50 minutes.

Ready. Press Start to begin the first focus interval.

  • Classic25 and 5, four rounds
    2 h 00 m to the long break, 2 h 15 m for the whole cycle
  • Deep work50 and 10, two rounds
    2 h 00 m to the long break, 2 h 20 m for the whole cycle
  • Short cycle15 and 3, six rounds
    1 h 48 m to the long break, 1 h 58 m for the whole cycle

A round is one focus interval followed by one short break. The long break comes after the last round, and then the cycle starts again from round 1. Change a length while the timer is running and the cycle is worked out again from the time already elapsed, so press Reset to start the new lengths from the beginning. Skip jumps to the start of the next interval.

Exact about elapsed time. Each interval is measured against the system clock rather than counted tick by tick, so a throttled or backgrounded tab does not drift. The alarm can be late or silent while the tab is in the background or the device is asleep, and the browser needs one click on the page before it will play any sound.

Common questions

When does 50 and 10 suit better than 25 and 5?
When the work takes a while to get back into, such as writing, programming or reading a long text, and a 25 minute interval tends to end just as you settle. If fifty minutes is more than you can hold, the Classic case under the timer goes back to 25 and 5 in one click.
How long is a full 50/10 cycle?
Two rounds of 50 minutes of focus and 10 of break take 2 h 00 m. The 20 minute long break brings the whole cycle to 2 h 20 m, and then it starts again at round 1. The Deep work line under the timer shows the same figures.
Can I change it to 50 and 15, or to four rounds?
Yes. Type 15 in Short break, or choose 4 under Rounds, and the timer uses the new lengths straight away. Only the lengths you change here are remembered in this browser for the main pomodoro timer too; opening this page, or switching the sound, leaves the lengths you saved alone.
