Roman Numeral Date Converter

Convert a birthday, wedding or anniversary date into Roman numeral text, or read a Roman date back into digits. The workflow opens on February 29, 2024, as II.XXIX.MMXXIV in month/day/year order. Choose another order and separator; each calendar component is converted and the Gregorian date is validated.

For reverse conversion, choose the order written in the Roman date. Two-digit years mean those actual years; they are not expanded to a modern century. Date components use the Gregorian calendar.

Standard notation. The converter and complete chart use 1 to 3,999 without overbars, zero or negative values. Calendar dates convert each component separately; this produces text for an anniversary or engraving, with no font or artwork generation. The PDF includes every selected chart row and can be printed.

Common questions

How do I convert a birthday or wedding date?
Select the complete calendar date and choose its order. Month/day/year converts February 29, 2024 to II.XXIX.MMXXIV. Day/month/year gives XXIX.II.MMXXIV, and year/month/day gives MMXXIV.II.XXIX.
How do I decode a Roman numeral date?
Choose Roman to date, enter three numeral components separated consistently, and select their source order. The output shows ordinary date digits and an ISO Gregorian date underneath. Ambiguous month/day order is chosen explicitly.
Can I copy a date for a tattoo or engraving?
Yes. Copy result copies the plain date text with the chosen dots, slashes, dashes or spaces. This workflow does not generate fonts, SVG artwork or a tattoo design.
How are leap days and old years handled?
Gregorian leap-year rules are checked, including the century exceptions. Years must be 1 through 3999. A numeral year XIII means year 13, rather than 2013; early dates use the proleptic Gregorian calendar.
Does this handle a clock time, BC date or overbar numeral?
No. This workflow converts positive calendar date components in standard Roman notation. It does not calculate time-of-day, BC numbering or extended overbar forms.

Exact for canonical Roman integers from 1 to 3,999. Date components are validated in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. Charts and exports include every selected integer in that range. Overbars, historical variants, zero, time-of-day conversion and typography are outside this workflow.
