Polytonic Greek Keyboard

Type ancient or polytonic Greek with breathing and accent keys ready to use. Click a vowel, then its breathing mark, accent and iota subscript where needed. Unicode NFC composes supported combinations; copy or save the result.

Greek letters with final sigma ς and monotonic accent keys. Clicked combinations compose where Unicode supplies a precomposed form; other combinations keep their combining marks.

Click a base vowel, then a breathing mark, then an accent, then an iota subscript if needed. Marks combine into Unicode letters where a precomposed form exists.

Click a key and the character lands where the cursor is, so you can click, type, click again and it stays in order. Your own keyboard types normally unless you enable Russian key positions. That option reads physical letter positions for Standard ЙЦУКЕН or XKB phonetic, whichever you selected. English labels show those positions. It does not transliterate multi-letter spellings. Shift stays on until you press it again, and Thai and Persian have no case, so the control is not offered there. Backspace here removes a character together with the marks sitting on it, and Undo puts back the last hundred steps, text and cursor together.

Exact about characters: Every key inserts the character it shows, encoded as ordinary Unicode, at the cursor: this types text and does not translate or transliterate it. Clicked Greek accents are composed into single characters where Unicode supplies a precomposed form; other clicked combinations remain combining sequences. Persian keeps the zero-width non-joiner, and deletion removes a character with its combining marks rather than leaving one behind. Nothing you type leaves the browser. Your draft and the language you picked are kept in this browser alone, and the Start over button at the top of the page forgets them. Sub-pages open in their own script without changing the language you chose here.

Common questions

How do I type a breathing mark and accent?
Click the base vowel first. Add Smooth breathing or Rough breathing, then Acute accent, Grave accent or Circumflex. Add Iota subscript last if the spelling needs it. For example, α plus smooth breathing and acute accent gives ἄ; α plus rough breathing, circumflex and iota subscript gives ᾇ.
Does it include Greek capitals and diaeresis?
Shift changes the letter keys to capitals. The mark keys include diaeresis for combinations such as ϊ and ΰ. Each mark combines with the text at your cursor; NFC creates a single code point where Unicode has a precomposed character.
Does it check Ancient Greek or Koine spelling?
No. It supplies Unicode Greek letters, breathing marks and accents for the spelling you choose. It does not select the right accent, translate words, or judge grammar and pronunciation.
Can I copy polytonic Greek on a phone or computer?
Yes. Tap the keys in a browser on a phone or tablet, or click them on a computer. Copy gives you Unicode text and Download saves a UTF-8 file. The page opens with Polytonic Greek selected and does not install an operating-system keyboard.
