English to Russian Transliteration

Type Russian words with English letters and the Cyrillic appears under the box as you type: privet becomes привет and ya tebya lyublyu becomes я тебя люблю. Longer letter groups are read first, so zh, kh, ch, sh and shch give ж, х, ч, ш and щ, and ya, yo and yu give я, ё and ю. Copy the result or download it as a text file. This spells Russian words in Cyrillic; it does not translate English into Russian.

Deterministic character transliteration, not translation or passport spelling.
Привет! Как дела? Спасибо, хорошо. Я тебя люблю.

Latin to Cyrillic reads the longest sequence first, so shch is Щ before sh is Ш. It also takes h for Х, c for Ц, e' for Э, y after a vowel for Й, and ye at the start of a word or after a vowel for Е. Punctuation and spaces pass through unchanged.

Common questions

Which shortcuts does the Latin input accept?
Besides the table, h gives х, c gives ц and e' gives э. A y after a vowel is й, so Andrey becomes Андрей, and ye at the start of a word or after a vowel is е, so yeshche becomes еще. An apostrophe gives ь and a double quote gives ъ.
Will an English name come out spelled the Russian way?
No. Letters convert one by one, so John comes out as Йохн, while the usual Russian spelling is Джон. Russian spellings of English names follow the sound, which a letter table cannot know.
Does it work like a transliteration keyboard?
It does the same job in a text box: type in Latin letters and the Cyrillic updates with every key. It does not install or change a keyboard, and it works in any current browser on a phone or computer.
Why did detstvo come out as децтво?
In the simple table ts is always ц, and e is always е unless you type e' for э. Correct a word with тс, such as детство, by hand after copying.

Every conversion follows the printed table for the chosen scheme, plus the listed typing rules for Latin input. The simple table spells е and э both as e and reads ts back as ц, so check those letters; this page makes no passport-spelling claim.
