Small Dog Breeds That Don't Shed Much
This page opens the small breed table with the shedding control set to Low: 25 of the 46 breeds, each a typical adult range for weight and height, with its coat, how much the breed moves and whether it is commonly described as adapting to a flat. Every dog sheds some hair, so low here means the coat is described as dropping little, not none. Two coat shapes make up most of the list: coats that keep growing, long like the Maltese, the Yorkshire Terrier, the Havanese and the Shih Tzu or curly like both Poodles, and the harsh wire coats of terriers such as the Cairn, the Norfolk, the Scottish and the Miniature Schnauzer. Cap the weight, sort by weight, height or A to Z, or press Low again to see every breed.

Common questions
- How many of these low-shedding breeds stay under 15 lb?
- Fourteen of the 25 have a typical top weight of 15 lb or under, and five stay at 10 lb or under: the Affenpinscher, the Maltese, the Toy Poodle, the Silky Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier. Set the weight cap and the count above the table updates.
- Are these hypoallergenic dog breeds?
- This page makes no allergy claim. Hypoallergenic in a breed list usually means a coat that drops little hair, and that is all the shedding column describes. Whether a particular person reacts to a particular dog is something a coat description cannot tell you, so read Low as a statement about hair and nothing more.
- Which small breeds that don't shed have short hair?
- Most low-shedding small breeds have long or wiry coats. The two rows with only a short coat that are marked low are the Basenji, whose short fine coat lies tight, and the Italian Greyhound, whose short satiny coat lies close. The Brussels Griffon, also marked low, comes in a smooth variety as well as a rough one.
- Does this page say which of these breeds to get?
- No. It filters and sorts and stops there, with no score and no verdict. Which dog belongs in a home turns on things a web page cannot see.
Typical adult ranges from published breed-standard descriptions, filtered and sorted exactly as you set them. An individual dog lands inside or outside these ranges, so this describes a breed and never predicts a dog.
