- How many seconds are in a day?
- 86,400. A day of 24 hours, each of 60 minutes of 60 seconds, is 24 × 60 × 60 = 86,400 seconds, so one day is 86,400 s, two days are 172,800 s and a week is 604,800 s. Dividing by that figure is the whole conversion: 43,200 seconds comes back as 0.5 days, 259,200 seconds as 3 days and 2,592,000 seconds as 30 days.
- Why can a real calendar day differ from 86,400 seconds?
- Because a calendar day is tied to clocks and to the Earth, not to arithmetic. A common calendar year of 365 days is 31,536,000 seconds and a leap year of 366 days is 31,622,400 seconds, and the converter cannot tell which one you mean because it holds factors rather than a calendar. - Why does the page open on seconds and days when I last converted something else?
