The word lists are bundled (about 400 adjectives and 400 nouns) and never fetched. They hold no first names, surnames, brands or body parts, so nothing the tool adds can turn a handle into a real person’s name. Whether a handle is still free is something only the platform can tell you: check it there before you settle on one.

Common questions

What are Instagram's username rules?
A username is 1 to 30 characters long and may contain letters, digits, dots and underscores only. It cannot begin or end with a dot, and it cannot contain two dots in a row. Case does not matter: Instagram treats River.Pixel and river.pixel as the same name, and the tool's clean, aesthetic and professional styles are lowercase for that reason. Every handle this page shows has passed those checks; the row for Instagram under the stage reads all 10 pass.
Can it tell me if an Instagram username is taken?
No. Availability is held on Instagram's servers and nothing running in your browser can query it. What this page can promise is that the handles it shows will not be refused for breaking a rule. To check one, open Instagram, go to Edit profile, type the handle into the Username field and Instagram tells you immediately whether it is available. Copy the handles you like from here, try them there, and draw another ten if they are all gone.
Why do the aesthetic handles here never end with a dot?
Because Instagram refuses a trailing dot, and every handle is checked before it is shown. The aesthetic style has three patterns: a trailing dot, the second word with its vowels dropped, and a single word with a y added. On this page the first pattern fails the check every time, so it is thrown away and redrawn, and the ten you see come from the other two. Switch the platform to Any to see the trailing-dot form.
Will the handles use my name?
Only if you type it. The bundled word lists, about 400 adjectives and 400 nouns, hold no first names, surnames or brands, so nothing the tool adds can make a handle read as a person's name. If you want an Instagram handle that does not identify you, put a hobby, a colour or a favourite thing in the Words field and the tool builds around that instead.
Can I change an Instagram username later?
Yes: Instagram lets you change your username from Edit profile, and it keeps the old one reserved for you for 14 days in case you change your mind. So a handle from here is not a permanent choice, and the same field is where you find out whether the new one is free.
