Video Compressor for Discord
Open a clip and this page already has 10 MB in Target, so pressing Compress aims the file under that size. If the upload limit for your account or server is a different number, type it into Target or press 8 MB or 25 MB. Before encoding, the plan shows the bitrate the picture gets, and afterwards the size is measured on the real file. The video is compressed in this browser tab and never uploaded here.

The target is split before anything is encoded: 96 per cent of it, in bits, divided by the length, less the audio, is the bitrate the picture gets, so the file aims 4 per cent under the target to leave room for the container. Width sets the output width, and the height follows the original shape, rounded to an even number because the encoders need one. A frame rate cap only ever lowers the rate. Keep copies the original sound without re-encoding it where the format can hold it (AAC or MP3 in an MP4, Opus or Vorbis in a WebM) and it starts at the zero point of the file; otherwise the message says why and asks for a bitrate. When the work ends, the file is read back: its container, codecs and picture size must match the plan or it is not offered, and its size and length are measured, not predicted.
Common questions
- How do I make a video small enough to send on Discord?
- Open the video, check the number in Target and press Compress. Keep MP4, which carries H.264 video and AAC sound, if your browser can write it. When the work ends, compare the original and the result side by side, then press Download and attach the file in Discord. The size printed under the result is the measured size of the file you download.
- How long a clip fits in 10 MB?
- The page keeps 96 per cent of the target for the file, so 10 MB gives 76.8 million bits to share between sound and picture. A one-minute clip gets 1,280 kbps in total and 1,152 kbps for the picture after 128 kbps of sound. At 1920 x 1080 and 30 fps that is about 0.019 bits per pixel per frame; at width 1280 the same bitrate gives about 0.042. A full 1920 x 1080 picture at 30 fps reaches the page's 0.01 floor at about 1 minute 42 seconds; past that the page refuses and names the changes that would fit, such as width 1280 or smaller, 24 fps or lower, No audio, or a larger target.
- Why did my file come out a little over 10 MB?
- An encoder lands near the bitrate it is given rather than on it, so the page aims 4 per cent under the target and measures the result. If the file still comes out over, press Aim lower, which lowers the target by the amount it missed, and compress again. Sizes here are decimal: 10 MB is 10,000,000 bytes, which is below a limit counted as 10 MiB (10,485,760 bytes).
- Does Discord accept the file this makes?
- This page cannot check that. It makes an MP4 or WebM of the size you chose and reads it back to confirm its format, codecs, picture size and measured size. Upload limits depend on the account and the server and can change, which is why the target is yours to set.
Which codecs can be read and written depends on your browser, and an unsupported file or encoder is refused before any encoding starts, never written under the wrong label. The target sets the bitrate, so the file lands near it rather than on it, and the finished size and duration are measured on the real file. Videos up to 250 MB and 10 minutes are compressed on your device and never uploaded.
