Seed and countries

These take effect when the next quiz starts. The same seed, countries, mode, format and length always give the same questions and options in the same order.

Continent groups follow the flag-icons metadata. They are a way to choose countries, not a statement about borders. Multiple-choice options come from the countries selected for the quiz, or from all 82 when a mistakes drill has fewer than four.

Your practice on this device

Each finished quiz is kept here as counts only, the newest 20. A wrong, skipped, timed-out, hinted or revealed answer adds that country to your saved mistakes for that mode; an unaided correct answer later removes it. None of it leaves this browser.

Sources

Snapshot 2026-09-21, 82 countries. Capitals and their Wikidata ids come from Wikidata, released under CC0 1.0. Flag artwork and country names come from flag-icons 7.5.0, copyright 2013 Panayiotis Lipiridis, under the MIT License. Every flag is drawn in a standard 4:3 frame, and Nepal keeps its own outline inside it. Eighty-one capitals agree between the two sources once accents and punctuation are set aside; for Ukraine the quiz uses Wikidata's Kyiv. The snapshot started from a fixed list of 88 countries and left out the few whose capital record was ambiguous or transitional, or had no English label. Included: Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bhutan, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Türkiye, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Common questions

Which African countries are in the quiz?
Algeria, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The snapshot is a reviewed selection, not every country in Africa: it started from a fixed list of 88 countries, and the few whose capital record was ambiguous or transitional, or had no English label, were left out, so this is a short quiz.
Which capitals does the quiz use for Tanzania, Nigeria and Morocco?
Dodoma for Tanzania, Abuja for Nigeria and Rabat for Morocco, as the dated Wikidata snapshot records them. Every capital answer shows its source with a link to its Wikidata entry.
Can I quiz only some of these countries?
Yes. Open Countries under Seed and countries, press None, then tick the countries you want; a quiz needs at least 5. Press Africa (15) to select all of them again. The countries you pick here are not remembered, so this page always opens on all 15.
Can I print an Africa quiz?
Yes. Print a quiz turns the current settings into a numbered sheet with a separate answer key, drawn only from the African countries you have selected.

Questions come from exactly 82 country, capital and flag pairs in a dated 2026-09-21 snapshot: capitals from Wikidata (CC0) and flags from flag-icons 7.5.0 (MIT), with the source shown on every answer. It is not all of world geography and settles no sovereignty question; flags are drawn at a standard 4:3, Nepal keeping its own outline, not to official construction ratios. A country whose flag file or fact fails its check is shown as unavailable, never paired with another country's flag.
