Average Time Calculator
Find the arithmetic mean of multiple durations. This page opens Average mode with an empty list, ahead of a previously saved mode or list. Enter one duration per line, such as 1m 30s, 2m and 1m: their mean is 1m 30s. Use 0:03:25 or 3m 25s for minutes and seconds; a two-part colon entry such as 3:25 means hours and minutes. Each entry is rounded once to a whole second, then the mean is rounded to the nearest whole second. Blank lines and notes do not contribute. Invalid lines remain flagged beside a partial preview.

One duration per line. Write 1:45 or 1:45:00, 1h 30m 20s, 90 for ninety minutes, or 2.5h. A leading minus takes the line off the total, and anything after two spaces or a # is a note that is kept but not counted.
Common questions
- How is the average time calculated?
- Add the signed durations, then divide by the number of valid duration lines. For 90, 120 and 60 seconds, the total is 270 seconds and the mean is 90 seconds, displayed as 0:01:30. A note or blank line is not another observation. Each input rounds to a whole second before it participates in the mean.
- Why does averaging 1 second and 2 seconds display 2 seconds?
- Their unrounded mean is 1.5 seconds. This display rounds means to whole seconds, with halves away from zero, so it shows 0:00:02. Averaging -1s and -2s shows -0:00:02. Decimal-hour and minute values are derived from that rounded whole-second mean.
- Can I average lap, task or clip durations?
- Yes, when you supply one measured duration per line and want an unweighted arithmetic mean. Enter 45s, 1m 15s and 1m for a mean of one minute. The tool does not predict a race, infer pace from unequal distances, read a media file or calculate frame timing.
- Can I average times of day or weighted durations?
- This mode averages signed durations. Times such as 11 PM and 1 AM need a separate circular-clock interpretation, and weights need a weighted calculation; neither is supplied here. Use plain duration measurements. A negative line is a negative observation, rather than an instruction to exclude time from every observation.
- How do I compare the average with the total?
- Choose Add / subtract to total the same supplied entries, then Average to return to the mean. Changing a mode does not edit the list. If any line is invalid, the preview only includes valid lines and labels how many counted; correct the invalid entries before using the result as complete.
Every line is parsed to whole seconds and the total is exact; decimal hours are rounded to two places. Adding to a start time wraps past midnight and says so.
