Kept Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 30, 2026

Summary

Kept is an iPhone app operated by Harsh Patel. It is a private custody record for one parent. It has no accounts and does not ask for your name or email. Your record (handoffs, expenses, messages, notes, your custody plan, day changes, photos and the change history) is stored on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud. It goes to another person only if you share it or export a file yourself. We do not operate a server that stores your record, we cannot read it, and we do not sell data, show ads or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Your record

  • Your custody plan: the pattern, handoff times and place, and the name you use for the other parent.
  • Your entries: handoffs with their planned and actual times, expenses with who paid and the split, messages, notes, day changes, and the photos and screenshots you attach.
  • The change history: each entry keeps its original and every edit, with the time it was saved. Removing an entry keeps it in the history.
  • Settings: your lock and reminder choices, your last known subscription status, and a record of the one time welcome offer window. The offer record is kept in the iOS Keychain on this iPhone so it survives reinstalling the app.

Your record is kept in the app’s protected storage on your iPhone.

iCloud and read only sharing

  • Your private iCloud. Kept uses Apple CloudKit to keep a copy of your record in your private iCloud database under your Apple Account, so it is backed up and comes back on a new iPhone. We cannot access your private iCloud data.
  • Read only sharing. If you share your record with your attorney or someone else you choose, Apple’s iCloud sharing makes it available to the people you invite.
    • They can read it and share its PDF, and cannot change anything.
    • They see your name from your Apple Account as the person who shared it, and you see who has access.
    • You can stop sharing at any time in the app; everyone you invited loses access.
  • Erasing. Settings > Erase this record deletes every entry, photo, your plan and the change history from this iPhone and your iCloud, and stops any sharing.

Camera, photos, lock and notifications

  • You can take a photo or choose one from your photo library to keep with an entry. Only the photos you pick are added.
  • When you add a screenshot of a message, Kept reads its text on your iPhone with Apple’s Vision framework. The text stays in the entry and is never sent anywhere.
  • Your Kept passcode is stored in the iOS Keychain on this iPhone. Face ID is handled by iOS; Kept never receives your face data.
  • Reminders are scheduled locally through Apple’s notification system; there is no push server. A reminder shows only the planned time, never anything you wrote.
  • Change camera, photo and notification access anytime in iOS Settings.

What Kept does not access

Kept does not use your location, contacts, health data, your Messages or Mail, or bank accounts. It never contacts the other parent or anyone else for you.

Data we collect

Kept has no accounts, and nothing it collects includes your name, email, phone number or Apple Account. The data below is pseudonymous, but it is linked in Apple’s sense: it is tied to random identifiers for your install, and those identifiers are joined to each other. It is not used for tracking: Kept has no ads, does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not ask to track you, and does not share data with data brokers or advertisers.

  • Product interaction: which steps you complete in the app, from a fixed list of events, with counts and yes or no flags. Sent to PostHog. Purpose: analytics.
  • Purchase history: your subscription status, trials, renewals and cancellations, from Apple’s signed purchase records via RevenueCat. Purposes: app functionality, analytics.
  • User ID: a random app user ID created by RevenueCat and a random analytics ID created by PostHog, joined so subscription events appear in the product funnel. Neither is your name, email or Apple Account. Purposes: app functionality, analytics.
  • Device ID: the identifier for vendor (IDFV) that the RevenueCat SDK sends with its requests. It is not the advertising identifier. Purposes: app functionality, analytics.
  • Advertising data: Apple’s AdServices attribution token. Kept sends it to Apple, and to RevenueCat, to learn whether the install came from an Apple Search Ads campaign and, if so, which campaign, ad group and keyword. Kept keeps only that answer. Purpose: analytics.
  • Crash data: crash reports from Apple’s MetricKit (crash kind, exception type and code, signal and app build), sent as PostHog events. Purposes: app functionality, analytics.
  • Performance data: hang reports from MetricKit (how long the app was unresponsive and the app build), sent as PostHog events. Purposes: app functionality, analytics.

What analytics contain. Analytics come from a fixed list of events and properties; anything else is dropped before sending. They include the app version, whether a subscription is active, roughly how many entries you have (in ranges), whether you set up a plan, and which kind of entry you saved. Screen recording, session replay and automatic tap capture are off, and PostHog’s location lookup is turned off, so analytics carry no country or city. Analytics never include entry content, names, places, notes, messages or text read from screenshots, amounts or splits, handoff dates or times, photos, the people you share with, or exported files.

Payments. Payments go through Apple In App Purchase; we never receive your payment card details. RevenueCat checks your subscription for us; its privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy. PostHog’s is at posthog.com/privacy.

Exports

PDF reports, CSV files and photo copies are created on your iPhone. When you share one, iOS sends it to the destination you choose, such as Files, Mail or Messages. Kept does not record where you send it.

Retention and deletion

  • Your record stays on your iPhone and in your iCloud until you erase it in Settings or delete the app and its iCloud data.
  • Exported files, purchase history and the Keychain offer record are separate:
    • manage iCloud data and subscriptions in Apple Settings;
    • stop sharing in the app;
    • delete exported copies where you saved them.
  • We keep analytics only as long as it is useful for improving the app. Email us to ask for deletion of analytics data. Because it is not tied to your name, tell us roughly when you installed Kept and your device model so we can find it.

Children

Kept is meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. What you write about your children stays in your record, as described above, and never appears in analytics.

Changes

If our data practices change, we will update this page and the date above, and update the app’s App Store privacy details.
